Customized hormone therapy is the use of supplemental doses of hormones that have a chemical structure identical to the hormones that the human body produces naturally. Hormone therapy is most often used to address the physiological changes a woman encounters as she approaches and progresses through menopause. However, hormone treatment may also be used to help menstrual cramps, infertility, irregular periods, endometriosis, and fibrocystic breasts.

"After one day on customized estrogen, I felt the veil lift. After three days, the sky was bluer, my brain was no longer fuzzy, my memory was sharper. I was literally singing and had a skip in my step"
- Oprah Winfrey

Estrogen and progesterone are hormones that are produced by a woman's ovaries. At menopause the production of the bodies' natural hormone, progesterone drops dramatically. This decrease in progesterone levels often contributes to the estrogen dominant symptoms observed in menopause. Symptoms of progesterone deficiency often couple parallel those of excess estrogen.

The most common symptoms include:

  • Loss of sex drive
  • Sleep difficulty
  • Depression
  • Fatigue
  • Foggy thinking
  • Fibrocystic breasts
  • Headaches
  • Irritability
  • Memory loss
  • Fluid retention

Normalizing the balance between progesterone and estrogens is essential to treating menopause and perimenopause. Studies have shown that progesterone can be involved in new bone formation as well. Bone mineral density can be increased with progesterone therapy and thereby produce an increase in physical activity, relief of bone pain, and fracture prevention in women.

The Hormones

Micronized Progesterone

Progesterone plays a major role in the body and has many functions in both males and females of all ages. Progesterone is responsible for regulating blood sugar, developing intelligence, building bones, brain activity and many more. Additionally, progesterone plays an important role in concerting fat into energy, regulating thyroid hormone production, and helping to reboot libido.

Micronized Progesterone, or Natural Progesterone, is compounded in several dosage forms at ScriptWorks. We commonly compound this progesterone into topical creams or gels, which are electronically mixed and milled to ensure a pharmaceutically therapeutic product. Equipment and expertise to mix topical dosage forms like this are rarely found in traditional pharmacies. Other dosage forms and combinations are also available.

It's important for both women and men to balance estrogen levels to avoid health challenges, such as osteoporosis, obesity and diabetes.

Estrogen is not one hormone, but a group of similar hormones with varying degrees of activity. ScriptWorks can compound many different combinations of estrogens. It is important to note that everyone's body is different; therefore, one basic dose will not work for everyone.

Getting Started is as Simple as 1-2-3

1. Get a Saliva Test

If you feel that you may benefit from a custom compounding solution, please contact us today. We will start by scheduling a personalized consultation and suggesting a non-invasive saliva test.

Saliva testing is a convenient, inexpensive, and accurate means of testing steroid hormones. Scientific studies have shown a strong correlation between steroid hormone levels in saliva and the amount of hormone in the blood that is active. Saliva testing can be done anywhere, anytime. In addition, hormones in saliva are exceptionally stable and can be stored at room temperature for up to a week without affecting the accuracy of the result. For more information and a 'how to' video about saliva testing visit ZRT Laboratory.

2. Get a Prescription

With the information from the saliva test, your doctor can better determine if this would be a good solution for you based on your medical history. We will then work with your doctor to create a balance of prescription hormones that is uniquely tailored to your individual needs and current lifestyle.

3. Apply Daily

Getting the daily dose of hormones you need is as simple as applying the topical cream to your skin. ScriptWorks utilizes Topi-CLICK® no-touch applicators, which are the most accurate dispenser for topical medications in the industry. An independent study of topical dispensers showed Topi-CLICK® to be 96.7% accurate in delivery of the medication dosage. Click here to review the study in full.

Topi-Click Instructions

  • Pop the cap off with thumb.
